NIU women’s tennis junior Nataly Ninova has been named this week’s Huskie of the Week after sweeping her singles matches over the weekend and being named the Mid-American Conference singles player of the week.
In the Huskies’ 7-0 win against Lindenwood University, Ninova took a 7-5, 6-2 victory over junior Michelle Trochez, as well as a 6-2 doubles win with her partner, senior Maria Dzemeshkevich.
Against Saint Louis University, Ninova dominated a 6-2, 6-2 match against sophomore Nicolly Ferreira, contributing to the Huskies 4-0 win.
Against the Huskies’ narrow 4-3 loss against the University of Missouri, Ninova dominated her set, playing at the third singles spot for NIU. Ninova won 6-1, 6-2 sets to defeat freshman Zoe Lazar.
This is Ninova’s first Huskie of the Week honor, and her second time being named MAC singles player of the week.
NIU women’s tennis next match is at 9 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House against Northern Iowa University, before a 1 p.m. match against Eastern Illinois University.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on Jan. 27.
The Northern Star sports section’s Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Jan. 13 to Jan. 19.
