NIU redshirt senior linebacker Quinn Urwiler has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week after posting a team-leading 12 tackles in the Huskies’ 35-31 loss against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday night.
Urwiler was also named Mid-American ConferenceDefensive Player of the Week.
In the second quarter, he recorded his first career interception which led to a touchdown for the Huskies, giving them a 14-10 lead.
Urwiler also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter which led to another touchdown, extending the Huskies lead to 31-20. It was similarly his first career forced fumble.
Notably, Urwiler recorded 141 tackles on the season, finishing with the third most tackles in the country.
Urwiler is the second NIU football player to be named Huskie of the Week this season, joining quarterback Jalen Macon. He is the first linebacker to receive the honor since it debuted in fall 2022.
