DeKALB – Transgender Day of Visibility, the day to recognize and reflect on transgender people’s history and present, is Friday. Here are three events students can participate in to celebrate.

NIU: EDUCATION AS LIBERATION, OPEN SUBMISSIONS

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center, the GSRC and Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality will host a discussion of media created by gender-nonconforming individuals at NIU.

People can submit media (articles, videos, anything linked online) via the NIU Event Calendar. Submissions should reflect lived experiences and reference one of three submission categories: classroom learning, experience on-campus or experience off-campus.

More information can be found on the NIU Event Calendar.

PRISM: A QUEER AND TRANS GENERATIONS PANEL

At 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Holmes Student Center Illinois Room, Prism will hold a panel where elders in the queer and transgender community will divulge wisdom and insights from their lives. Panelists include three LGBTQ+ NIU alumni.

Students can register for the event for free on Huskie Hub.

RAINBOW RAVE

At 8 p.m. Friday, the Student Government Association’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee will host a rave in the Holmes Student Center Sky Room.

The event will have games, food, facepaint and music. An outfit contest will be held, so attendees are encouraged to dress up.

Students can register for the event for free on Huskie Hub.
