NIU crime log, September 2023

DeKALB – The information in this report is compiled from the NIU Police Department’s Daily Crime Log.

Any case defined as “unfounded” was not included in this list. Any case “closed by exception” means the case is closed due to circumstances outside of the investigation (missing a complainant, suspect was arrested for another crime, etc.). Any “suspended” case means the investigation is paused until leads become available. All case dispositions (“open” or “closed” statuses) are subject to updates. All locations provided are general.

Sept. 1

  • At 9:30 a.m., traffic (Illinois Vehicle Code) occurred at Lot C, 890 Lucinda Ave. This case was suspended.
  • At 1:57 p.m., criminal sexual assault occurred in DeKalb. This case was referred to another agency.
  • At 3:58 p.m., battery occurred at Grant Residence Hall North. This case was closed by exception.
  • At 9:05 p.m., battery occurred at Patterson Residence Hall Community Center. This case is open.
  • At 10:05 p.m., possession of cannabis (less than 10 grams) and possession of drug equipment occurred at Stevenson Residence Hall North. This case was closed by exception.
  • At 11:31 p.m., armed robbery occurred at 443 College Ave. This case was referred to another agency.

  • At 12:23 a.m., illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor occurred at Lot P, 455 Stadium Drive West. This case was closed by exception.
  • At 4:08 p.m., public indecency and “all other disorderly conduct” occurred at Neptune Residence Hall Central. This case is open.
  • At 9:38 p.m., battery and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor occurred at Stevenson Residence Hall North, D-1191. The case of battery was suspended, but the illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor was closed by exception.

  • At 12:04 a.m., theft of lost or mislaid property occurred at Grant Residence Hall North. This case is open.
  • At 7:36 p.m., institutional vandalism and criminal damage to property occurred at the Art Building (Jack Arends Hall). This case of institutional vandalism was closed by exception, but the case of criminal damage to property is open.
  • At 11:38 p.m., two counts of domestic battery occurred at Central Park, 1226 Douglas Drive North. This case was closed by arrest.

  • At 7:17 p.m., leaving the scene of a property damage accident occurred at Lot P, 455 Stadium Drive West. This case is open.
  • At 10:14 p.m., criminal sexual assault occurred in DeKalb. This case was referred to another agency.

  • At 3:50 p.m., stalking occurred at Neptune Residence Hall West. This case was suspended.
  • At 6:27 p.m., intimidation occurred at Neptune Residence Hall West. This case was suspended.
  • At 10:15 p.m., possession of cannabis (between 10 grams and 100 grams) occurred at Neptune Residence Hall North. This case was closed by exception.

 

Sept. 6

  • At 1:37 p.m., illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor occurred at Stadium Drive South and Stadium Drive East. This case was closed by exception.

  • At 1:24 a.m., illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor occurred at Central Park, 1226 Douglas Drive North.
  • At 1:25 a.m., battery occurred at Grant Residence Hall South. This case is open.
  • At 1:27 a.m., two counts of battery occurred at Central Park, 1226 Douglas Drive North. This case is open.
  • At 2:40 a.m., unlawful use of weapon occurred at 904 W. Hillcrest Drive. This case was referred to another agency.
  • At 3:20 a.m., two counts of battery occurred at 1175 Lincoln Drive North. This case is open. 
  • At 3:40 a.m., battery occurred at 1175 Lincoln Drive North. This case was suspended.

  • At 5:47 p.m., illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and unauthorized videotaping/live video transmission occurred at Stevenson Residence Hall North C. This case was closed by exception.
  • At 11:34 p.m., criminal sexual assault occurred at Northern View Complex. This case is open.
