NIU crime log, October 2023

DeKALB – The information in this report is compiled from the NIU Police Department’s Daily Crime Log.

Any case defined as “unfounded” was not included in this list. Any case “closed by exception” means the case is closed due to circumstances outside of the investigation (missing a complainant, suspect was arrested for another crime, etc.). Any “suspended” case means the investigation is paused until leads become available. All case dispositions (“open” or “closed” statuses) are subject to updates. All locations provided are general.

OCT. 1

  • At 2:30 a.m., two counts of domestic battery occurred at 1100 Lucinda Avenue. This case was closed by arrest.
  • At 9:40 a.m., battery occurred at Stevenson North. This case was closed by arrest.
  • At 11:09 a.m., harassment through electronic communications at Gilbert Residence Hall. This case was closed by exception.
  • At 3 p.m., theft over $500 occurred at Stevenson Residence Hall South. This case was suspended.
  • At 9:19 p.m., illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor occurred at Grant Residence Hall North. This case was closed by exception.

  • At 1:30 p.m., failure to notify damage/unattended vehicle occurred at Lot A, 548 Kishwaukee Drive. This case was suspended.
  • At 3:25 p.m., robbery, residential burglary and possession of cannabis (between 10 grams and 100 grams) occurred at Neptune Residence Hall North. This case was closed by arrest.
  • At 8:48 p.m., theft of $500 and under occurred at Neptune Residence Hall North. This case was suspended.
  • At 9 p.m., tampering with security, fire, life systems occurred at Gilbert Residence Hall. This case was closed by exception.

  • At 7 p.m., aggravated domestic battery/strangle, domestic battery/bodily harm, domestic battery/physical contact, and criminal damage to property occurred at Stevenson Residence Hall South. The cases of battery were closed by arrest, and the case of criminal damage to property was closed by exception.
  • At 9 p.m., tampering with security, fire, or life systems occurred at Neptune Residence Hall West. This case was closed by exception.

  • At 2:12 a.m., criminal damage to property two counts of fighting within the city occurred at Neptune Residence Hall North. The charges of fighting were closed by arrest, and the charge of criminal damage to property was closed by exception.
  • At 3:17 a.m., consumption of alcohol occurred at Neptune Residence Hall North. This case was closed by arrest.

  • At 3 p.m., leaving the scene of a property damage accident occurred at Lot O. This case was suspended.
  • At 3:18 p.m., tampering with security, fire, or life systems occurred at Patterson Residence Hall West. This case was suspended.
