In the next few months there will be a plethora of games that will be released, as revealed Jan. 31 in Sony’s first “State of Play” event of the year.
During the event premiere, critical information and gameplay of games releasing in the next few months was showcased. These were a few of the games showcased in the event:
“HELLDIVERS 2”
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, this third-person shooter game has the player fight in a squad of four and fight against other alien species and robots. The game is currently available for pre-order and is set to release Feb. 8 for PS5 and PC.
“STELLAR BLADE”
In development by Shift Up, the trailer at the “State of Play” event showcased various aspects of the game such as the mechanics of combat, characters involved in the story and the hub world to which players can return to.
The release date is set for April 26 on PS5 only.
“SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS”
A remake of the original “Sonic Generations” released back in 2011, this upcoming game features the same content from the original game but will include new zones and bosses centered around the fandom’s favorite edgelord, Shadow the Hedgehog.
The remaster is scheduled to release in fall 2024. The game will be available for PS4, PS5, XBOX and Steam.
“ZENLESS ZONE ZERO (Z.Z.Z.)”
Another anime/RPG style game developed by HoYoverse, Z.Z.Z. will have a diverse set of uniquely designed characters you can use to fight different types of enemies, much like their other games.
The game is still currently in development for PS5 only and does not have a release date.
“FOAMSTARS”
This Splatoon-style game, developed by Square Enix, has two teams of four players competing against each other using foam and soap.
The game will have different characters, maps and multiple modes of combat like “Mirror Match Madness” and “Invisible Showdown.”
The game is set to release on Feb. 6 on the PS4 and PS5.
“DAVE THE DIVER”
In this game, you play as a diver named Dave tasked with adventuring underwater and catching seafood for you and your friend to eat later. As you try to complete what seems like a fairly easy task, different types of obstacles will try to keep you from safely resurfacing.
The game is set to be released in April and will have a collaboration with the “Godzilla” franchise in May.
“SILENT HILL 2”
This remaster of the original game is still in development and utilizes Unreal Engine. The game will only be available on PS5 and no release date has been confirmed.
“SILENT HILL: THE SHORT MESSAGE”
This new game in the franchise follows the protagonist, Anita, as she becomes stuck in a time loop while trying to dodge different horrors and monsters. The game is being developed by Konami using Unreal Engine.
The game is currently available as of Jan. 31 and is free to play.
“RISE OF THE RONIN”
“Rise of the Ronin” will be an open-world action RPG style game set in the 19th century. It follows a lone warrior with various weapons and gadgets, from classic katanas to gliders and rifles, to use on your adventure.
The game is set to release on March 22 and will only be available on the PS5.
At the end of the “State of Play” there was confirmation of the same event on Feb. 6 which will have information on the game “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.”
