SGA announces election winners

DeKALB – The Student Government Association announced election winners eight days after voting closed. The election had the most votes in over 10 years with 1,999 students voting, according to Deputy Speaker Chris English.

PRESIDENT 

Ja’kobe Jones won the presidential ticket with 1124 votes. Jones ran on the NIU United ticket. 

Alexia Musgraves, who ran on the NIU Unity ticket, had 749 votes.

There were 11 write-in votes.

VICE PRESIDENT 

James Innis won the vice presidency with 985 votes. Innis ran on the NIU United ticket.

Khardell Phelps who ran on the NIU Unity received 826 votes.

There were 3 write-in votes. 

TREASURER

The treasurer position will be determined by a special election from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in the Holmes Student Center.

STUDENT TRUSTEE

Aidan O’Brien won the student trustee nomination with 1019 votes. O’Brien ran on the NIU United ticket. 

Jeremiah Johnson who ran on the NIU Unity received 795.

There were 4 write-in votes. 

COLLEGE OF BUSINESS SENATORS

Nicholas Lazaric, 1123 votes, and Kevin Klister, 958 votes, will represent the College of Business.

Isis Chavez received 3 votes.

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING SENATORS

Manny Corpuz received 1249 votes and ran unopposed. 

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SENATORS

Caitlin Field, 1045 votes, and Lyall Kehely, 974 votes, will represent the College of Education.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCE SENATORS

Nathan Gonzalez, 945 votes, Uday Kiran Chigurupati, 913 votes, Seth Monteleone, 881 votes, Cooper Vaske, 847 votes, and Paul Benson, 9 votes, will all represent the College of Liberal Arts and Science. 

COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SCIENCES SENATORS

Matt Robinson, 1203 votes, will represent the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Isaik Bahena received 2 votes. 

GRADUATE STUDENTS AT LARGE SENATORS

Graduate Students at Large will be Isaiah Chukwudi Samuel, 1006 votes, and Onyenum Ruth Udoh, 893 votes.

SENATOR FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENT COMMUNITIES 

The Senator for Underserved Student Communities will be Bino Rosales who received 1,159 votes.

Cesar Castillo received 2 votes.

SENATORS FOR UNIVERSITY PROVIDED HOUSING 

Nick Gradel, 1024 votes, and Mekhi Dixon, 958 votes, will be the senators for University Provided Housing.

SENATORS FOR UNIVERSITY AT LARGE

Juliano Khanjian, 957 votes, Cameron Sawyer, 950 votes and Paul Samsonek, 808 votes will be the University At-Large Senators.

SGA Election voting took place March 25 to March 27. Students voted online through Huskie Hub.

Results were sealed until after two SGA Supreme Court hearings, related to appealing sanctions from the election, concluded.
