NIU women’s basketball head coach Lisa Carlsen resigned from NIU following 10 seasons leading the Huskies, NIU Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Sean Frazier announced Monday.
The decision comes after a fruitless season with an overall record of 13-17, ending 6-12 in Mid-American Conference play.
“Thank you to coach Carlsen for her dedication to NIU and to her student-athletes over the last 10 seasons,” Frazier said in an NIU Athletics press release. “We appreciate her efforts and wish her all the best going forward.”
In Carlsen’s final season, the Huskies missed an appearance in the MAC tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Finishing her 10-year career with an overall record of 147-155, Lisa Carlsen showed appreciation to NIU in a post on social platform X.
“As I reflect on the incredible journey of the past 10 years at NIU, my heart is filled with gratitude and cherished memories,” Lisa Carlsen said. “What began as an exciting new chapter for our young family has now become a decade of unforgettable moments.”
As for the future of her daughter, freshman guard Lexi Carlsen, Lisa Carlsen hinted at a chance of a departure.
“It’s time for Lex (Lexi Carlsen) and me to begin a new journey. The friendships and connections we’ve formed here will always remain a part of our lives,” Lisa Carlsen said.
Lexi Carlsen averaged 8.4 points per game this season after starting 24 games for NIU.
In the meantime, Senior Associate Athletic Director Chris Barker will oversee the program while the Huskies search for a replacement.
