In just one year; 225 executive orders, 116 proclamations, 57 memoranda and one inhumane, ludicrous and deceiving administration.
President Donald Trump’s second term has to have been one of the most eventful and tiresome America has experienced. It has only been one year, yet many are fatigued by him and his insanity.
It feels like it has become a norm for our president to commit another heinous act. We as a nation are too habituated with his tactics. Thanks to his circus of cabinet members like ICE Barbie, submissive Stephen and the eyeliner king that he picked last January, he was truly able to fulfill his agenda.
In just one year Trump:
- Withdrew the U.S. from the World Health Organization, which will cause the U.S. to miss out on major global pandemic information.
- Withdrew the U.S. from many United Nation organizations. He did this without Congressional approval.
- Made up the Department of Government Efficiency for Elon Musk. This led to 284,000 federal employees being cut.
- Imposed tariffs on goods from China increasing tension in an ongoing trade war.
- Expanded offshore oil drilling, further harming the environment.
- Renamed the Department of Defense to the Department of War, furthering our antagonistic image in global perception.
- Destroyed the East Wing of the White House and built a golden ballroom for really no particular reason.
- Paved the way for Project 2025 which he denied any ties to, showing his untrustworthiness.
- Restricted reproductive rights, endangering women across the nation.
As for his economy, the unemployment rate hit 4.6% in November – the highest it has been since 2021. While there was job growth in the healthcare and social assistance fields, employment in other fields declined.
Moreover, only 36% of Americans state they approve of Trump’s economy. Prices continue to grow and groceries aren’t getting cheaper, even though he promised so many Americans he would lower prices.
In September, grocery prices were 2.7% higher than they were the year before. But then again, that is of no surprise because of Trump’s tariffs and him ramping up ICE taskforces. The people who voted for him solely to deport undocumented immigrants are going to have to pay their price at the grocery stores.
While the inflation rate did temporarily fall to 2.3% under Trump, it has risen again to 3%. It is important to note that the Federal Reserve’s target inflation rate is 2%.
Trump truly has done so much in his first year back in office, whether it’s pretending to have the best economy, ripping apart families or continuing to further the gap between the 1% and the poorest in this country.
Honestly, my takeaway from all of this is that if a 34-count felon can be president, trick a bunch of people into voting for him again and call them all dumb to their face, anything is possible in this country. May the new year bring less hardships during his regime and may the people suffer less.
