DeKALB — Rooted for Good, a nonprofit mobile food pantry, will be on the road providing free food and groceries to the public this upcoming February.
The refrigerated food truck holds pop-up events across Northern Illinois. Several dates are listed below:
- 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Malta Historical Society, Malta
- 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 4 at Hinckley First United Methodist Church, Hinckley
- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 8 at University Village Apartments, DeKalb
- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Cortland Lions Club Shelter, Cortland
- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, DeKalb
- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 at University Village Apartments, DeKalb
- 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 at Malta Historical and Genealogical Society, Malta
- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Sandwich
- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, DeKalb
Their home location, 415 W. Main St. in Genoa, offers a food pantry, bi-monthly “pay-as-you’re-able” meals, and educational classes on topics ranging from gardening and garden planning, seed saving and cooking.
Opportunities for volunteers include warehouse work, restocking pantry shelves, and filling and delivering grocery orders.
Vocational work opportunities and job training are available at their Kirkland farm, and assistance in job placement for the developmentally disabled.
No proof of need or documentation of any kind is required to enjoy a day of free food and drink, open to all.
