The DeKalb Park District will host their annual Polar Palooza event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hopkins Park Shelter, located at 1403 Sycamore Road. This family friendly event is free for all attendees.
At Polar Palooza, attendees can participate in winter-themed activities. This year will mark the 10th year of Polar Palooza. The event is open to all ages and is both indoors and outdoors.
Activities include sled dog demonstrations, winter hayrides, winter crafts and sledding. There will also be hot chocolate and s’mores. However, some activities may depend on weather conditions, according to the DeKalb Park District website.
DeKalb Park District Marketing Manager Mikayla Wilhelm, who joined the district four months ago and will be attending her first Polar Palooza, is excited to see the community interact with each other.
“I just moved up here recently as well, so I can’t wait to see the smiles on kids’ faces,” Wilhelm said. “I can’t wait to see people just interacting with one another and really bringing the heart of the community in that warmth and the cold, chilly February weather.”
Wilhelm wants people to make connections at this event.
“From my standpoint. I want them to enjoy each other’s company, make new friends, enhance their own connections with one another and also enjoy our beautiful Hopkins Park as well,” Wilhelm said.
