DeKALB — DeCarbon DeKalb is preparing to host its third annual Earth Fest in collaboration with NIU.
DeCarbon DeKalb is a climate change advocacy group based in DeKalb County. Aside from Earth Fest, the group also offers programs such as Decarbon Dialogues and the Microforest Project, which are both focused on climate action in DeKalb County.
Earth Fest is free and open to everyone, featuring a full schedule including a keynote from local speakers, interactive sessions on energy and land, a community expo and programs for youth and families.
The keynote will explore the connections between waste, climate and justice, highlighting what communities and individuals can do to reduce waste.
NIU Huskie Hail Hunter, a weather research truck, will also be featured at the event, allowing attendees to see the research station used by NIU scientists to study extreme hailstorms.
The station helps scientists collect data during severe weather events, giving researchers better insight into changing storm patterns and climate impact.
Earth Fest offers a variety of opportunities for vendors, including organizations and businesses focused on environmental sustainability, education and cultural practices rooted in caring for the planet.
Food trucks and various youth activities will be available throughout the day.
Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to register through DeCarbon DeKalb’s website, where the full-day schedule is available to view.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 11 at the NIU Founders Memorial Library.
