After two days of golf at the Ohio State-hosted Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Sunday, NIU men’s golf finished last in a field of 16 teams. The Huskies finished with a team score of 884, 39-over par.
The Huskies’ best scoring round was the second where they scored a team low of 292, four-over-par. NIU recorded the same score in the first and third rounds, scoring eight-over-par for a score of 296.
“Conner (McCall) and Jack (Mulligan) created a lot of opportunities this week,” said NIU men’s golf head coach John Carlson via NIU Athletics. “Collectively we needed to see more putts drop. We haven’t been able to put complete rounds together as a team yet. At Columbus Country Club the course puts pressure on your short game and we fell short in our execution this week.”
Sophomore Jack Mulligan led the way for the Huskies, finishing tied for 44th place with a score of 218, two-over par. Mulligan finished the first round at par, with a score of 72. He followed it up with a second round performance of four-over-par, before ending with a score of two-under par in the third round.
Sophomore Connor McCall was the Huskies’ second-leading golfer from the event, finishing tied for 56th place. McCall finished the first round one-over par, the second round three-over par and even in the last round. He finished with a total score of 220 strokes, four-over par.
Junior Craig Long ended the event tied for 65th place. Long finished two-over par in the first round and five-over-par in the third round, with his best round coming in the second, finishing at par. He ended the event with a score of 223, seven-over par.
Finishing in fourth in the Huskies’ lineup was sophomore Patrick Raupp, who finished tied for 76th place with a score of 228, 12-over par. Raupp scored five-over-par in the first and third rounds with a score of 77 strokes, and had his best round in the second with a score of 74, two-over par.
Sophomore Beau Peterson finished fifth in the lineup, finishing with a score of 230 strokes, 14-over par. Beau struggled in the first and third rounds, finishing with a score of six-over par in the first and nine-over par in the third. His best round came in the second in which he logged a 71, one-under par.
“This is a young team that has learned a great deal this season,” Carlson said via NIU Athletics. “The adversity we’re facing now will make us stronger as we prepare for the MAC Championship in three weeks.”
