Football sees multiple transfers heading into Summer

DeKALB — Five players from the football team have announced their intention to transfer over the summer from NIU.

Redshirt first-year quarterback Jiya Wright announced his transfer Wednesday on Twitter, saying he intends to continue his career as a quarterback after spending the end of spring camp working as a defensive back.

“I’d like to thank all my coaches, training staff and everyone here in DeKalb for the great memories,” Wright said in a statement. “That being said I am transferring from NIU to follow my passion of playing [quarterback].”

Sophomore wide receiver Fotis Kokosioulis had previously announced Monday on Twitter he has entered the transfer portal. Kokosioulis returned nine kickoffs last season for NIU, averaging 16.8 yards.

“I would like to take the time to thank NIU, the coaches that recruited me, the players for the friendships I have made,” Kokosioulis said in his post.

Redshirt first-year defensive back Justin Hall also announced Monday he will be entering the transfer portal.

“I would like to thank the current Northern Illinois University coaching, athletic training, and operational staffs,” Hall said. “My time here has been phenomenal.”

A pair of redshirt running backs, first-year Erick Doke and sophomore Jordan Rowell, both announced they will be transferring this summer.

The departures come a month after North Carolina State running back Erin Collins announced on Twitter that he has committed to NIU.
