NIU will hold a grand opening of the Lucinda Avenue extension, a stretch of road that connects Lucinda Avenue to Stadium Drive West, Wednesday.

The event will mark the conclusion to a year-long project to help create what NIU President Doug Baker has called a 10-minute campus. The project began last fall with the demolishing of Douglas Hall, a residence hall that stood between Chessick Practice Center and Grant Hall.

The grand opening event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from Baker. The opening starts at 2 p.m. just west of the Lucinda Avenue and Stadium Drive East intersection.

The event will be moved to the south lobby of Stevenson Hall in case of rain.
