NIU police: Student who died after Stevenson Tower fall was on acid

Police have concluded Oluwarotimi “Timi” Okedina was on acid at the time of his fall from a Stevenson Tower window and his death was accidental.

Police reached their conclusion after conducting interviews with people who were with the student on Sept. 26, the night he died, and compiling physical evidence at the scene, according to an NIU Police Department news release. The interviews and evidence confirm the coroner’s finding that Okedina’s death was accidental, according to NIU police.

“All evidence points to the student being alone in the room at the time of his death,” said NIU Police Chief Tom Phillips, according to NIU police. “We believe that the presence of LSD and cannabis in his system impaired his judgement and caused him to ignore the risk of exiting the room through the window, which resulted in the fall.”

Police continue a separate investigation into the source of the drugs.
