Recreation Center extends hours per students request

The Recreation Center has added extra hours each day, effective today.

The Recreation Center has announced new and extended hours for the Student Recreation Center and Chick Evans Field House. The Rec will be open an average of one and a half hours later every night, while the Chick Evans Field House will be open an hour later.

Recreation Center Director Sandi Carlisle said the change was made on the feedback given by students on an online survey on the Rec website, which said the Rec was not open late enough.

“We are open more and open later now and it will be less crowded,” Carlisle said.

Sharron Feagins, senior family, consumer and nutrition sciences major, is an employee at the Rec. Feagins said the new hours offer flexibility for the people who go to the Rec to stay healthy.

“Because I believe working out relieves stress, extended hours will really help in relieving the stress,” Feagins said.

Carlisle said with the increase in funding, the Rec is now able to return to its normal hours. Operational hours were reduced last fall.

Junior geology major Allison Dunnington said she was happy the Rec has new, longer hours.

“It’s really important for people to work out,” Dunnington said.

Carlisle said despite the change in hours, there will be no employment or parking-related changes to the Rec.
