Victim Advocacy Services holds event for Stalking Awareness Month

By Northern Star Staff

Victim Advocacy Services will host One Voice: A Program of Expression from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Diversions Lounge of the Holmes Student Center.

The program is being held in recognition of January as Stalking Awareness Month. Students will be able to show how and why they say “no” to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. This is a chance for students to demonstrate their commitment to safety on campus and in the community, and also show support to survivors of these situations.

In addition, Victim Advocacy Services and the Women’s Resource Center are working with Verizon Wireless through April to empower survivors of domestic violence. The HopeLine Project accepts cell phones, batteries and phone chargers that are no longer used and gives them to victims and survivors of domestic violence as a link to emergency or support services in a time of crisis.

Donations can be dropped off at the Women’s Resource Center and will be picked up every Friday. For more information on either of these events, call the Women’s Resource Center at 815-753-0320.
