Key Matchups: MAC Championship

By Matt Hopkinson

Dri Archer versus Sean Progar: Obviously the biggest and most important player for Kent State is Dri Archer, who has scored 21 total touchdowns on the season. Senior defensive end Sean Progar will need to be at his best by disrupting not only the quarterback but by attempting to get to Archer. Progar has had two weeks in a row of not showing up in the stat column very much, although last week the starters got a lot of rest. The Huskies will need leadership from seniors like Progar, one of the team’s best performers in tackling for loss and getting sacks.

Akeem Daniels versus Luke Batton: Akeem Daniels can be just as key as Jordan Lynch in this game. Coach Dave Doeren likes not only the rushing ability showed last week by Daniels, but other facets of his game as well.

“[I am] really proud of him because he is a great pass protector for us,” Doeren said. “He catches the ball well out of the backfield. He’s versatile in our empty package, and now he is a good downhill tailback. I think that is the one thing we have been waiting on for him.”

Daniels will not only be responsible for picking up a blitzing linebacker like Luke Batton, but can ease the load on Lynch by rushing effectively.
