The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Sept. 16, 2012

At 10:04 p.m., Jeron Douglas, 32, was arrested for possession of cannabis at a residence on Hillcrest Drive.

At 6:54 p.m., officers on patrol at 900 W. Lincoln Highway saw a silver Nissan. An officer knew the driver of the vehicle had a suspended license and checked through LEADS. It was verified. The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Matthew R. Buchnan, 22. He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and then released on bond.

At 9:09 p.m., a 2002 Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on 800 Pleasant St. buts its rear plate light was not illuminated. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver, Enrique Mercudo, 47, said he did not possess a valid license. There was also a strong odor of alcohol. He admitted to having drinks before driving and failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. He was arrested and transported to the police department. Mercudo was arrested for DUI, DUI over .08, no rear registration plate light and no valid driver’s license.

At 9 p.m., officers responded to Grant North dorms in reference to theft at a residence on Edgebrook Drive. Upon speaking with a victim, an investigation was started.

At 6:15 p.m., officers received a call from 624 N. First St. in regard to someone threatening another person with a gun. It was determined that there was no gun. Investigation was complete.

At 6:48 p.m., a complainant at 121 Wendell Place advised she saw a brown and white pit bull in her backyard. She chased the dog away with a broom. The victim said stray neighborhood dogs always come in the yard. She asked that dog owner(s) be warned but not issued a citation. The officers met with three neighbors. One said the owner with the pit bull moved out a week ago. Another neighbor said their dog was old and will be put down soon. The other neighbor advised that stray dogs come in his yard, too, but he is not sure who they belong to. The complainant said she will call again if she sees the dog.

At 10:07 p.m., a female came into Phillips 66, 1102 N. First St., to prepay $8 worth of gas. While she was paying, a male started pumping gas. He had pumped $16.64 worth of gas when the female grabbed the $8 and fled the store. The male and female got in their vehicle and sped away.

Between 8:10 and 11:30 a.m., a victim from a West Lincoln Highway apartment parked her car outside her apartment. The car was unattended. Unknown person(s) used a black marker and wrote on the driver and passenger side door. The tires of the vehicle were punctured with an unknown sharp object. The victim could not think of anyone who would target her vehicle. Management of the apartment said there was no surveillance of that lot.

At 3:09 a.m., Jacob M. Papke, 20, was arrested while at Edgebrook Drive for consumption of vodka and Red Bull mix drinks.

At 2:04 a.m., Marcela Morales, 20, was arrested for possession of alcohol at a Hillcrest Drive building.

At 4:45 a.m., officers observed an intoxicated male, Scott T. McCammon, 38, fall and hit his head at Oak Street. Upon speaking with him, officers found he had a warrant out for arrest. He declined medical attention. McCammon was arrested for a FTA warrant for DUI.

At 7:37 a.m., officers reported to IHOP, 131 N. Annie Glidden Road, in reference to a theft. A manager said an intoxicated patron ordered a drink and a food item. The subject then left without paying. He was found later at the 900 block of West Lincoln Highway. The subject was drunk and said he had lost his wallet. He also said he was walking home to Sycamore where he would get money to pay. The subject was brought back to the restaurant. The manager declined prosecution. Management requested that the subject or his family come back and pay at a later time. A message was left for his parents. The subject was given a ride home.

At 3:34 a.m., officers responded to a wellbeing check at McDonald’s, 805 W. Lincoln Highway. An employee called because a subject was asleep at the wheel at the drive thru. The officer saw the subject asleep with the vehicle in the drive gear and a foot on brake. The officer shifted the gear to brake for safety. A strong odor of alcohol and cannabis was coming from the vehicle. An investigation led to arrest. Hector Hernandez, 21, was arrested for DUI, not having a valid driver’s license, illegal transportation, not having insurance, unlawful acts/violated IVC, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 2:01 a.m., an officer spoke with a subject, Kari E. Scarbrough, 31, who was having difficulty walking in Lot 2 at 200 S. First St. It was observed that she was carrying car keys. When asked if she would be driving, she said no. She said she lived close and would walk. Five minutes later, the officer spotted Scarbrough driving southbound on Second Street. The vehicle was pulled over. The driver failed sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample. Scarbrough was arrested for DUI of alcohol and her vehicle was towed.

At 2:21 a.m., officers responded to a reckless driving complaint at 800 S. First St. Witnesses observed a vehicle run a red light and drive in both lanes. The vehicle almost crashed into a parked vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver was identified as Edward Rocha, 23. His eyes were bloodshot and his speech was not understandable. Rocha failed a sobriety test and he said he had drinks before driving. An open bottle of Modela beer was found when the vehicle was searched. Rocha was arrested for DUI, DUI over 0.08, illegal transportation of alcohol and disobedience of traffic device.

At 1:36 a.m., a victim ran into a street, yelling for help. The complainant said the victim lived at an apartment on 10th Street. The victim and suspect said there was an argument but no physical violence. No further police involvement was required.

At 3:29 a.m., an officer observed a silver Pontiac driving. When speaking to passengers in the back seat, there was an odor of burnt cannabis. Passengers and vehicle was searched with negative results. The passenger in the front seat said they had smoked cannabis earlier in the evening. All subjects were released without incident.
