Letter to the Editor: Lesson of Sept. 11

By Letter Writer

I am an American. There were many who gave their lives so that I could live in freedom. There are many who continue to serve so that we can all share that freedom.

As an American I will continue to get the best education that I can to elevate myself to the best position in life where I can, in turn, take care of the people around me.

I pledge to you, my fellow students and staff, as we remember 9/11, that I will continue to have respect for you as my fellow human beings. I have no right to judge you for your race, your religion, your sexuality, or any characteristic that makes you unlike me.

I have no right to cause malicious injury to you or your family in retribution of any of those prejudices. I have no right to take a life because of my personal demons. I will not go crazy and take random lives. I will honor you by showing respect, with proper tone and gesture, while we share this space together.

I will continue to use my opportunity here to better myself as a human being, and get to know as many of you as I can so that I can learn from you as well.

My best friend is gone, but while I am still alive I still have a chance. We all have a chance. I want to see you use it. Remember to take care of each other.

Thank you.
