An unidentified pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Normal Road Thursday morning.

A female driver of a white Toyota was turning left onto Normal from Lucinda Avenue when the accident occurred.

Both University Police and DeKalb police units responded to the accident. A crowd of students had gathered around the intersection.

“[The driver] was making a left-hand turn and [the pedestrian] was crossing the street,” said Mary Uitto, a language pathology major who was walking to class when the accident happened. “She must not have seen the person.”

“It looks like [the pedestrian] rolled across the street. After that [the pedestrian] just laid there.”

The driver, seemingly uninjured, waited for emergency personnel to arrive and was then seen leaving the scene with a police officer.

“I didn’t see any damage [on the car],” said Jessica Davis, a sophomore nutritional science major.

Sgt. Hoadley of the DeKalb Police Department said the cause of the incident is unknown.

“Whether the car cut the corner too short or the pedestrian walked without using the crosswalk, we don’t know,” Hoadley said. “We are sure that the driver had a green and the pedestrian was walking west across the intersection.”
