DeKALB — STEM Fest will take place this year on Oct. 23, in the heart of NIU’s campus at the Holmes Student Center, MLK Commons and Founders Memorial Library. In previous years, the event was held at the Convocation Center.

This free open house style event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for all ages. Last year, the event was held online due to COVID-19.

Activities such as Haunted Physics Lab, weather balloon launch, and cow eye dissections are just a few of the highlights in a jam packed day of fun.

“(STEM Fest) began in October 2010 as a way to bring together NIU and community partners to provide young people and their families the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities as they explore STEM fields and careers,” according to the NIU STEM Fest website

NIU student organizations, departments or programs or a community group, company or organization, are invited to participate in the event as exhibitors. People looking to host an exhibit can sign up here.

Parking for the event will be available for free in any parking lot on campus on the day of STEM Fest.

Since 2010, STEM Fest has welcomed 50,000 attendees, over 1,200 exhibits and more than 7,000 NIU volunteers.
