DeKALB — The NIU track and field team competed in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday and had nine top-10 finishes.

Two Huskies achieved a season-best in long jump, as senior Jazmyn Smith finished second with 5.97 meters and graduate student Kenya’s Majors took seventh with 5.84 meters.

Head coach Connie Teaberry commended her team’s continued success over the past couple of meets, including Friday’s.

“The athletes continue to show improvement,” Teaberry said in an NIU athletics news release. “We have one meet left before MAC and at the rate they’re going, more great performances are on the horizon.”

In the triple jump, sophomore Kendal Only measured for 11.19 meters to finish eighth. Graduate student Fatima Stingily would throw for 15.30 meters in the weight throw to take 10th in the event.

The Huskies also had two top-10 finishes in the 200 meter dash. Sophomore Malia Watkins finished with 24.46 seconds to take sixth and sophomore Skylynn Blue finished with 24.59 seconds to place ninth.

The Huskies will compete again Friday in the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special in Charleston, Illinois.
