DeKalb – Gas prices have risen in the last week after reaching record lows during September, according to GasBuddy.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the average gas price in Illinois rose to 22.2 cents per gallon last week, averaging $4.14 per gallon today. Around this time last year, prices were lower at $3.42 per gallon.

The lowest price in Illinois yesterday was $3.34 per gallon and the highest was $5.87 per gallon, a difference of $2.53.

The national average of gas this week is up 11.1 cents per gallon, with the average gas price being 3.78 per gallon. Prices are up from 0.04 cents per gallon from a month ago and higher than last year, standing at 59.8 cents a gallon.

The average gas price in Rockford is $4.13 per gallon and Elgin at $ 4.16 per gallon, according to AAA Gas Prices.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, thinks that prices will continue to surge upwards every week.
