Mihacevich and Lockwood rake in weekly MAC honors

DeKALB – The Huskies volleyball team had two players announced as Mid-American Conference Players of the Week Monday

Junior middle blocker Sammi Lockwood earned Defensive Player of the Week and junior setter Ella Mihacevich earned Setter Player of the Week.

Lockwood had five or more blocks in each of the Huskies three matches this past week. In total Lockwood totalled 17 blocks this week, forcing teams to gameplan around her at the net to be able to score. She had five blocks in the Huskies’ 3-2 win against Western Michigan University and back-to-back six block performances against the University at Buffalo. These performances earned Lockwood her first MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Mihacevich had a week of her own, breaking her career-highs in assists (55) and digs (17) versus Western Michigan. By the end of the week, Mihacevich ended with a grand total of 116 assists and 40 digs which set up kills but also kept rallies in play. This is Mihacevich’s second award of the season for the MAC WestSetter of the Week after six weeks of season play.

The pair have been huge in leading the Huskies to a 11-4 record while also being 4-1 against MAC rivals.

The Huskies’ next match will be Friday at home against yet another MAC opponent, Bowling Green State University at 6 p.m. Live stats can be found through the NIU Huskies official website and the match can be watched through NIU All-Access.
