Former Huskies on All-Decade ballot
January 15, 1992
Donald Whiteside and Donnell Thomas have ended their stellar NIU basketball careers, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped making news.
Thomas and Whiteside are on the All-Decade performer ballot for the Mid-Continent Conference. In conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the league, the M-C is conducting a league-wide vote to select the conference’s top five performers.
Although NIU has only been in the M-C for two years, Thomas and Whiteside made their mark during last season’s 25-6 campaign.
The duo were the main sparkplugs that propelled the Huskies to the regular-season conference title last season.
Ballots for the all-decade squad will be in the Huskie Illustrated game programs at the next three home games, starting with Saturday’s 7 p.m. game against Illinois-Chicago. Free ballots will also be available at Chick Evans Field House.
The dynamic Huskie duo join some select company on the all-decade ballot.
Tony Bennett (Wisconsin-Green Bay), Lee Campbell and Winston Garland (Southwest Missouri State), Kevin Duckworth (Eastern Illinois), Ken “Mouse” McFadden and Clinton Ransey (Cleveland State) are among the other nominees on the ballot.
