Street Interviews: Where do you get your news?

DeKALB – Through the Northern Star, students may sign up to receive the daily TLDR newsletter.

However there is a long list of press available to the public, from The New York Times to CNN to BBC, and there is an equally long list of platforms on which they can be found.

As for NIU students, it turns out accessibility plays a big factor. In the busy life of a college student, finding information quickly and conveniently is key.

Where do you get your news?

“I mostly get my news online. I mean, honestly, like for social media.”

Why?

“It’s cause I’m mostly on there, so it goes right to my – yeah, you know.”

Where do you get your news?

“I’d say I get my news on social media.”

Why?

“Because it’s just so accessible. I’m always on my phone or on Twitter or something.”

Where do you get your news?

“I guess I get most of my news…like this, there’s an app that I have on my phone… It says top stories [under Apple recommendations].”

Why?

“It kind of takes from a bunch of different sources… from a bunch of different places like USA Today, CNN, like Reuters, like all those places, so you kind of get a general gist for everything.”

“Probably YouTube.”

Why?

“I watch a lot of YouTube so the ads and all those things on there are how I keep up to date on things.”
