DeKALB – The NIU football team has taken more hits to its roster after four players entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday via social media posts.

Redshirt junior left tackle Marques Cox, redshirt defensive tackle Jeffrey Griffin Jr., sophomore cornerback Sam Robertson and redshirt freshman wide receiver Mason Pierre-Antoine each announced their entrance to the NCAA transfer portal on Monday via Instagram and Twitter posts.

Cox and Griffin Jr. both redshirted in their first seasons at NIU in 2018 during its Mid-American Conference title-winning season. Robertson arrived at NIU this past offseason after spending his freshman season at the University of North Dakota. Pierre-Antoine redshirted in his first season as a Huskie last season.

Cox started 33 consecutive games for the Huskies before going down with an injury against the University of Kentucky on Sept. 24. He protected the blindside of redshirt senior quarterback Rocky Lombardi in his last full season of action. NIU embarked on a 9-5 2021 campaign on its way to a MAC Championship title and a berth to the Tailgreeter Cure Bowl.

Cox ends his NIU playing career having blocked for five different starting quarterbacks across 37 games played.

Griffin Jr. played in 34 games across four seasons of playing time but did not earn a start during his NIU career. He recorded 28 total tackles and assisted on a tackle for loss last season.

Neither Robertson nor Pierre-Antoine saw the field at any point during their NIU playing careers.

Cox and Griffin Jr. have one season of eligibility remaining. Robertson and Pierre-Antoine have three seasons of NCAA eligibility left.
