DeKALB–  NIU STEAM department will be hosting a STEM Café in the upcoming week to provide students with healthy ways to navigate stressful encounters during the holidays.

The STEM Café offers students the opportunity to better understand emotions and how to positively interact with those around them. The event will take place on Dec. 7 and will run from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at Fatty’s Pub and Grille, located at 1312 W. Lincoln Highway.

The Café will feature presentations and lectures from NIU assistant professor of Psychology, Randy McCarthy and director of the NIU Employee Assistance Program and social worker, Brian Smith. This event is intended to  help students navigate solutions for aggressive behavior, provide tips for effective communication and de-escalating an intense situation to make room for positive interactions in the future.
