NIU men’s soccer signs four new players
NIU men’s soccer head coach Ryan Swan announced Thursday four players that will be joining the program for the 2023 season.
Joe Hernandez, Kevin Kelly, Luka Vasic and Ethan Wilson are the new signees, according to an NIU Athletics press release.
Hernandez, a midfielder from Bensenville, attended York Community High School and helped his school place fourth in the Illinois Class 3A state playoffs in 2022. Hernandez won a state championship as a junior in 2021.
Kelly is a native of Dublin, Ireland but played his last two seasons at Daytona State College. Kelly, a forward, scored 10 goals and tallied 11 assists in 2022. Kelly helped Daytona State reach the NJCAA Division I national tournament in 2022 as well.
Vasic hails from Maple, Ontario, Canada and most recently played for the Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club in Woodbridge, Ontario. Vasic joined the Strikers in 2016 and played with their League One Ontario U19 team that finished third in the Central Division.
Wilson, a defender from Ajax, Ontario, Canada, played for DeRo United Futbol Academy. Wilson also played for the Ontario provincial team.
NIU men’s soccer is preparing for a new slate of opponents as the Huskies will join the Missouri Valley Conference as an affiliate member in 2023.
