NIU football announces nine signings for 2023 season

DeKALB– The first day of February signing for NIU football concluded with nine new roster signings with six of the players being from Illinois. 

The six Illinois recruits include freshman tight end Tyler Gaines from Rockford, freshman running back Garrett Gensler from Rochelle, freshman defensive back Tyler Gentile from Oak Forest, freshman wide receiver James Smith Jr. from Calumet Park, freshman kicker Danny Vuckovic from Kildeer and freshman defensive back Ethan Tierney from DeKalb. 

There were also three more freshman signings. Wide receiver Kobe Askew from Cataula, Ga., offensive lineman Landon Hron from Hartford, Wis., and linebacker Chase Hutchinson from West Des Moines, Iowa. 

Hammock will discuss the Huskies’ complete signing class and 2023 roster during “A Night with NIU Football.” The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10 in the Novak Room at Fatty’s Pub & Grille. The show will feature Hammock, members of the NIU coaching staff and special guests.

At the event there will be appetizers along with a cash bar. Representatives will also be in attendance to the season tickets and Huskie Athletic Fund renewals.
