Wanke arrested for many crimes

A former NIU student charged Oct. 25 with a Rockford burglary might be responsible for several DeKalb area break-ins, DeKalb Police said Friday.

Richard E. Wanke, 30, Cherry Valley, has been arrested by Rockford Police and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property. Wanke’s bond was set at $5,000.

DeKalb Police also requested that Wanke be held in Winnebago County Jail on $25,000 bond in connection with a June 13 and a Sept. 19 burglary at Wayman’s Ace Hardware, 1814 Sycamore Rd., Rockford Police said.

Police arrested Wanke when he tried to break into a Rockford business. Wanke might be responsible for several burglaries in Winnebago County, police said.

Wanke allegedly stole tools and a copy machine from the Wayman’s Ace Hardware Store, DeKalb Police said.

Some NIU property was found at Wanke’s home, Rockford Police said.
