DeKALB – Redshirt freshman Blake West’s electrifying overtime win over Northwestern University redshirt senior Michael DeAugustino netted him this week’s Huskie of the Week honor.

West’s performance brought the Convocation Center crowd to its feet after defeating DeAugustino 7-2, who is currently ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division I rankings.

West showed out in Feb. 4’s Beauty and the Beast meet with an 8-4 victory over University at Buffalo redshirt freshman Mason Bush at 125. West’s match was the first of the day that contributed to the Huskies’ 15-14 overall victory over Buffalo.

The NIU wrestling team will face Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at 1 p.m. Sunday in Edwardsville.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on Feb. 20.

The Northern Star Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their performance in competitions taking place from Feb. 6 to Feb. 12.
