Pirates, a drag show, art games and sports this Saturday

Come hear stories of the high seas or visit a classy but comical drag show this Saturday – your day has been planned out.

SWINGING THE LANTERN

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. songwriter and storyteller Dave Martin will enrapture attendees with tales of real-life incidents that have occurred in the five seas of the world. Audience members will get the chance to meet a real life pirate and experience the story of a 1913 Great Lakes storm that historians named “The White Hurricane.” This event will take place at the Dekalb Public Library, located at 309 Oak St., DeKalb, and is free to the public.

ILLUSIONS: THE DRAG QUEEN SHOW

Starting at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. the Sandwich Opera House, located at 140 E. Railroad St., Sandwich, will host the Illusions Drag Queen Show. This burlesque style performance will be a celebrity tribute with impersonators of Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Adele, Tina Turner, Cher and so much more. The cost of attendance ranges from $35 to $40 and can be purchased online at the Opera House website. Adults 18 years or older may attend, and ID’s will be checked at the entrance.

ART BREAK

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Sycamore Public Library, located at 103 E. State St., will host a free art break for adults. All types of art mediums and tools will be freely provided for attendees to create whatever they want in a relaxed environment. This program is free to the public but those who wish to attend must register to secure a spot. This event is not limited to February but will take place on the third Saturday of each month up until May.

NIU SPORTS GAMES

NIU Women’s Tennis vs Western Illinois will start at 10 a.m. at the Chick Evans Field House.

NIU Women’s Basketball vs Ball State will start at 1 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
