DeKALB – NIU women’s volleyball head coach Sondra Parys announced Thursday that the Huskies’ coaching staff is adding Mackenzie Rombach as an assistant coach.

Rombach previously spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. She coached both indoor and beach volleyball teams, leading the indoor team to the All-Atlantic Sun Conference postseason tournament in each of her two seasons at Jacksonville State.

Before coaching at Jacksonville State, Rombach was a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville during the 2020 season. The Cougars had a .714-win percentage and qualified for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, according to an NIU Athletics press release.

As a player, Rombach played professional volleyball overseas for Prowin Volleys in Saarbrücken, Germany. There, Rombach started as a four-rotation middle blocker for one season. She also played both indoor and beach volleyball for Jacksonville State from 2015-2018.

The Ottawa, Ill. native is linked in Jacksonville State’s record book as second on the career blocks list with 473. Rombach also recorded over 1,000 career kills.

Rombach has a bachelor’s degree in pre-medical studies from Jacksonville State and a master’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sport and exercise psychology from SIUE, according to an NIU Athletics press release.
