Track and field hopes to dash to MAC victory

DeKALB – NIU women’s track and field will look to showcase its talents on the Mid-American Conference’s (MAC) biggest stage with athletes such as junior Scout Regular looking to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Regular is currently ranked No. 2 in the MAC in her best event, the 60-meter hurdles. Her best time this season came on Feb. 3 at the Meyo Invitational where her time was 8.44 seconds. 

Regular has been the model of consistency for this Huskie track squad, finishing in the top three for the 60-meter hurdles at every meet this season while also garnering three victories. Regular has been at the top of the MAC rankings all season and can earn a spot next weekend at the NCAA Championships. 

Graduate Aquilla St. Louis is also ranked in the top 10 for the 60-meter hurdles, coming in at No. 8 with her season best at 8.68 seconds. St. Louis’ time also came at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 3. 

NIU has two athletes that are in the top five in the MAC for the 200-meter dash. Fifth-year Kadeja Campbell and junior Skylynn Blue lead the Huskies in the 200-meter dash. Blue is currently ranked second with her best time being 24.34 seconds at the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Big Meet on Feb. 10. 

Campbell is right behind her teammate, ranked No. 3 with her season best occuring this past weekend with a time of 24.40 seconds at the Badger Invitational. Campbell is coming off a win in this event and will look to replicate her performance this upcoming weekend.

Campbell is also ranked No. 4 in the top 10 in the conference for the 400-meter dash, with her best time being 55.19 seconds at the GVSU Big Meet on Feb. 10. Senior Jahnetta Jones currently sits at ninth in the conference for the 400 as she ran a 56.31 on Feb. 10. 

NIU has two athletes currently ranked in the MAC’s top ten for the high jump and the triple jump. Fifth-year Dymier Jeffrey holds the No. 10 spot in the MAC for the high jump, with her season best jump being 1.65 meters at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup on Jan. 14. 

Fifth-year Diamond Riley is ranked fourth in the MAC for the triple jump with her season best coming from the first meet of the season, the Blue and Gold Invitational on Dec. 2, 2022. Riley jumped 12.27 meters at the invitational. 

The Huskies’ MAC showdown will start at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The invitational will take place in Bowling Green, Ohio at the Perry Field House. The events will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
