A gorgeous Saturday morning, the table is set for breakfast — cups of orange juice, fresh cut fruit, syrup, warm fluffy pancakes and a jar of peanut butter.

Peanut butter on pancakes is a must, you cannot have a complete pancake breakfast without it. It’s the best breakfast hack in the book!

To prepare it correctly, you need two to three warm pancakes, a jar of your favorite peanut butter (I prefer Skippy) and maple syrup. Using a butter knife, place a generous layer of peanut butter on each pancake before smothering the pancake with syrup.

Peanut butter in combination with pancakes and syrup is a delicious explosion of a sweet and nutty flavor that you won’t be able to resist.

In 2016, several of Rosa Parks’ personal documents were released to the public — letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., pages of journals and a pancake recipe scribbled on the back of an envelope.

Parks’ “Featherlite Pancake,” recipe includes peanut butter in the batter. Clearly, not only was Parks an activist, but she was also a great at-home cook.

“I learned to cook by observing my grandmother and could prepare a simple meal almost as soon as I was tall enough to see the stovetop,” Parks wrote in her manuscript, “Early Childhood Experiences and Incidents.”

It is unknown how her pancake recipe came to be, perhaps she simply loved peanut butter and believed it would be a great addition or maybe there is a bigger story.

If you’ve never tried adding peanut butter to your own pancake recipe, I would recommend branching out and trying something new.

To those who are repulsed by the idea of including peanut butter with pancakes, why? Pancakes are simply another form of bread, might as well add your favorite jelly to create a new take on the peanut butter and jelly.
