DeKALB – The Huskies’ losing streak extended to seven after the loss against the Central Michigan University Chippewas Saturday, falling by a final score of 17-7.

The Chippewas aggressive bats came alive in the third and fourth innings. CMU had five runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth. The Chippewas were up 14-3 by the end of the fourth inning.

The Huskies’ struggles at the plate continued as they went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning.

NIU had trouble stopping runs throughout the entire game. CMU had four players with three runs.

“You can’t give up the amount of free bases we gave up today against a really good team,” NIU baseball head coach Mike Kunigonis said.

Junior outfielder Colin Summerhill led the Huskies in hits and RBIs (runs batted in) with three in both categories.

“Yesterday we pitched well and couldn’t hit,” Kunigonis said. “Now today, we couldn’t pitch it, but we could swing great.”

Walks were a major catalyst in the lopsided score, as NIU pitchers allowed 12 free passes to CMU hitters.

NIU’s overall record is now 5-24 with a 2-9 MAC record. CMU’s MAC record is now 7-4 with an overall record of 17-12.

The Huskies play the final home game of their three-game series against the Chippewas at noon Sunday at Ralph McKinzie Field. Live stats will be available on SIDEARM Stats. Live stream of the game will be available on NIU All-Access.
