Ly shines, Huskies struggle at BYU Intercollegiate

DeKALB – Junior Jasmine Ly earned her second straight top-five finish at the BYU Intercollegiate as NIU women’s golf finished in seventh place Tuesday.

The Huskies finished with a final score of 33-over par, 897, through three rounds. NIU finished in seventh place out of eight teams – only ahead of Utah Valley University, who scored 50-over par, 914. 

Ly finished tied for fourth place after tying for fifth place at last week’s Pinetree Collegiate. New Mexico State University sophomore Meiji Tungprapunvong tied with Ly, as both golfers scored one-over par, 217. 

The Windsor, Ontario native scored even par in the first round, one-over par in the second round and even par in the third round. Ly also totaled eight birdies through three rounds. 

Senior Ahra Ko was the next highest finisher for NIU, finishing tied for 17th with four other golfers at six-over par, 222. Ko finished her first round with a score of two-over par, the second round at four-over par and her last round at even par. 

Ko’s final round score of even par caused her to move up nine spots into 17th place. The Georgia native also collected eight birdies during the invitational. 

Graduate student Sydney Naro finished tied for 26th with two other golfers – New Mexico State’s freshman Emma Bunch and California State University, Sacramento’s sophomore Sneha Sharan. Naro finished with a score of nine-over par, 225. She collected four birdies through three rounds.
