Poll: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
April 17, 2023
I used to be a night owl. I hated mornings and always felt the most productive during the night despite my tired eyes. This was largely due to my sleep schedule. At night, I would frequently fight my sleep whether it was because I had to complete an assignment, finish reading a book, or scroll through social media and as a result overtime, my body and sleep schedule got used to it.
About a few years ago, I decided I needed a transformation. My habit of staying up at night made my morning self lazier and caused me to become less attentive throughout the day.
I decided that at a certain time everyday I would close all distractions and just go to sleep. I planned earlier times to complete things such as assignments and books. At first it was hard to resist opening my phone at night and reading. Most of the time, after closing my eyes and waiting to sleep, I just couldn’t.
I looked up effective ways to fall asleep and what worked for me was counting back from 1,000. After days of trying out this method, my body adapted to my new sleeping schedule and my mornings felt so much better.
I love being a morning person now, waking up early has made me have a new appreciation for mornings. I enjoy hearing the birds chirp during the early hours, getting ahead of assignments, and starting new books. I also enjoy going on walks when I have extra time in the mornings.
Being a morning person allows me to have longer days than before and as a result I get more things done.
But not everyone is a morning person. For people who have to work at night, sometimes they have no choice but to be night owls. Also, some people just naturally thrive during the night – they feel more energized at night, they can get more things done, and falling asleep becomes easier for them in the morning.
