Sluzas secures Huskie of the Week honors after first-place finish

DeKALB – Three days after winning MAC Golfer of the Week honors, sophomore Ben Sluzas was voted as Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week after a first place finish at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.

Sluzas opened round one of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate shooting a 69 to put him in a tie for second place. He recorded an eagle at the par-five sixth and birdied on the final three holes on the front nine.

Sluzas’ second round began with four birdies on the six holes before the tournament was suspended for the day. He ended the second round in second place going into the last day of the tournament with a score of one-under par, 70.

Sluzas shot a one-over par, 72 in the final round, including birdies at hole 14 and hole 16. Sluzas’ final score gave him a two-stroke win over Kent State University senior Chris Vandette and Ohio State University senior Jackson Chandler.

This is Sluzas’ second top finish of the 2022-23 season. Sluzas tied for first place in the Badger Invitational on September 13. He was also named MAC Golfer of the Week on September 14 following his win.

Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on May 1.

The Northern Star Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from April 17 to April 23.
