Lazy complaint
October 16, 1991
There have been numerous complaints from students in the last few years about the ability of their teachers, especially in mathematics, to speak English fluently.
In one case, two years ago, I investigated myself, and found the complaints against a statistics teacher nothing more than a sustained whine from students too lazy to study who were looking for an excuse for their failure.
The latest gripe came from Jackie Datti that Finite Math is already so hard that her teacher’s accent makes it all hopeless. Finite Math is a relatively easy introductory course.
If Datti finds it that hard, I recommend she get used to the foreign accents, because she will probably end up working for one of those people with foreign accents who can handle math.
