One of DeKalb’s oldest and most popular businesses, the Egyptian Theatre, promises an eclectic mix of events in the coming months.
This season will feature a wide variety of events, ranging from tributes to popular artists to screenings of classic films and much more in between.
Coming to the Egyptian Sept. 23, is multi-Grammy award winning country artist Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, whose latest album “Altitude” released in May.
On the more modern, pop-oriented end of the country spectrum is Chris Janson, who rose to success in the last decade with hits like “Buy Me a Boat” and “Good Vibes.” Janson is set to perform at the Egyptian Oct. 20.
Among other concerts hosted by the Egyptian this season are funk rock band War, playing Sept. 28, who are best known for their 1975 single “Low Rider.” Although this is their biggest hit, the band broke ground with their genre-bending 1972 album “The World is a Ghetto,” which combined funk and soul styles with the psychedelic sound that was popular at the time.
Additionally, tribute bands centered around iconic artists have a considerable presence in the Egyptian’s lineup for the season. Evil Woman, The American ELO, performing Oct. 13, is a 12-piece band celebrating Electric Light Orchestra’s multitude of beloved hits, which include “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Don’t Bring Me Down” and “Telephone Line.” Going further back in time to the era of the sophisticated crooner, Frank Sinatra tribute act The Sinatra Experience performs Oct.r 22 and A Tribute to Dean Martin is scheduled to appear Nov. 5.
Among the upcoming film screenings at the theater are a horror film series which runs from Oct. 3 to 31 and will include a double feature of “The Wolf Man” and “The Mummy’s Ghost,” “Friday the 13th Part 2,” “The Shining” and a screening of “Halloween” on the night of the holiday to conclude the series. Additionally, a 35 mm film print of the classic Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life!” will be screened on Dec. 16.
Tickets to events can be purchased at The Egyptian Theatre.
