DeKALB – After leading NIU volleyball to its first win of the season, junior outside hitter Nikolette Nedic earned the first Huskie of the Week honor of the 2023-2024 school year.
Nedic was the focal point of the Huskie attack over the weekend, contributing 52 kills on 130 attempts in three matches, resulting in a .246 hitting percentage.
After a big offensive weekend, Nedic now leads the team in kills with 96, 37 more than her teammate, junior middle blocker Charli Atiemo, who has 59.
The Nedic-led Huskies earned their first win of the season Friday against the University of North Carolina Wilmington, which was also first-year head coach Sondra Parys’ first win as head coach.
Nedic and the Huskies return to Illinois to take part in the DePaul Invitational this weekend. NIU will face DePaul University, University of Evansville and St. Thomas University over the three-day event.
Next week’s Huskie of the Week will be announced on Sept. 11.
The Northern Star sports sections’ Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3.
