DeKALB – Take advantage of the warm weather and step outside to enjoy local activities and support local vendors or get your mind blown at a magic concert.

KITE FEST

From 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, the DeKalb Park District will host its annual Kite Fest, open to the public. The festival will take place at the Kiwanis Park Center, at 1765 South Fourth St. Anyone is free to bring their own kite to fly or can buy one at the event from kite vendors. Professional kite flyers such as Team Chicago Kite, Al Sparling and Team Sky FX will be there for participants to watch their kites dance in the sky. There will be crafts to enjoy as well as food and drink vendors. Kids will have the opportunity to catch falling candy as the candy is lifted into the sky and then dropped. On top of that, DeKalb’s local radio station will provide music entertainment and broadcast the festival from noon to 4 p.m.

THE FOOLERS

Alex Ramon, Jessica Jane Peterson, Matt Donnelly and Vinny Grosso make up The Foolers, a quartet of illusionists. At 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22, the group will come together for one night only at the Egyptian Theater. This live production was created by Penn and Teller, an acclaimed magic duo who has five published books and a CW show called “Fool Us.” Their Las Vegas acts will feature comedy, witty banter and eye-boggling magic. Tickets range from $35 to $55, depending on seat location. Tickets can be purchased online at the Egyptian Theater website.

ART IN THE PARK

From 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1, a free Art in the Park event will take place at Citizens Memorial Sports Complex in Sycamore. This event is a collaboration between Sycamore Park District, Rockford Arts Area and Flaunt Productions. Local artists and vendors will provide art for individuals to view and buy. Sycamore High School will have demonstrations and activities for participants to revel in. Tree House Pies, a local pie company will cater homemade pies, fruit and cheese. For those who want to display their art at the event can apply at Flaunt Productions and reserve a spot. Applications are open through Sept. 26.
