DeKALB – Thanks to a hat-trick in NIU men’s soccer’s victory over Aurora University Monday, senior midfielder Eddie Knight earned Huskie of the week honors.
Knight’s selection is the first of his career at NIU and marks men’s soccer’s first Huskie of the week of the year.
Knight led the Huskies’ offensive outburst against Aurora Monday, scoring three of the seven goals NIU put on the scoreboard.
With the hat-trick against Aurora, Knight doubled his career goal total in what was his second career start.
Knight’s hat-trick also moved him into a tie with senior midfielder Camilo Estrada for the team lead in goals. The rare feat is also just the third time in the 21st century that a Huskie has scored three goals in one game.
Knight and the rest of NIU men’s soccer return to the pitch at 7 p.m. Tuesday to take on the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
Next week’s Huskie of the week will be announced on Sept. 18.
The Northern Star sports sections’ Huskie of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Student-athletes considered for this week’s edition were chosen based on their weekly performance in competitions taking place from Sept. 4 to Sept. 10.
