DeKALB – Send Silence Packing, a display that focuses on ending the silence around mental illness and suicide, is coming to NIU.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the MLK Commons, Send Silence Packing will be displaying their exhibit with personal stories of individuals affected by suicide.
Alison Malmon, the founder of Active Minds, founded the company after the suicide of her older brother during her junior year of college.
Send Silence Packing is an exhibit aimed at inspiring action for suicide prevention.
According to the company’s website, “Active Minds staff and volunteers are available at each stop, and are equipped to discuss the importance of knowing the signs of suicide, intervening when a friend is in distress, and getting help for themselves when needed.”
The event is being organized by Counseling and Consultation Services.
Students who want to know more about the Send Silence Packing exhibit can visit Active Minds website.
