DeKALB – NIU Athletics is set to host four home events this week in Huskie sports, including volleyball’s regular season finale against Western Michigan University and football’s quest for bowl game eligibility.

NIU football (4-6, 3-3 MAC) plays its final home game of the season against Western Michigan University (4-6, 3-3 MAC) Tuesday. After last week’s loss to Ball State University, the Huskies must win their final two games in order to be eligible for a bowl game. The Broncos will also need to win their final two games to be bowl eligible, so Tuesday’s game is essentially a must win for both schools. NIU comes into Tuesday’s match in fourth place in the MAC West, directly behind the third place Broncos.

After splitting its first two games of the 2023-2024 season, NIU men’s basketball (1-1) has a busy week with a home game on Monday and then two games in Atlanta in the Capitol Challenge over the weekend. The Huskies will look to carry over their momentum from Saturday’s win over Appalachian State University into this week.

Women’s basketball looks to bounce back after a 0-2 start as it faces the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on the road. NIU has shot just 35.2% from the field as it has been outscored 124-170 through two games.

NIU wrestling will compete in its second-consecutive tournament following their 11th place team finish at the MSU Open on Saturday.

With a postseason berth out of reach, the NIU volleyball team (8-21, 6-11 MAC) closes out the 2023 campaign with a final homestand against MAC powerhouse Western Michigan (27-2, 17-0 MAC). The Huskies will aim to spoil the Broncos’ undefeated record in conference play.
GYMNASTICS
Friday, Nov. 17: Red/Black Exhibition, 6 p.m.

NIU gymnastics will showcase this year’s squad at the annual Red/Black Intrasquad Meet before the regular season begins in January. The roster will be split in half and pitted against one another as they compete on bars, balance beam, floor exercise and vault.

NIU Hockey looks to finally break through in the win column in the ACHA Showcase this weekend. The Huskies will take on all non-conference opponents, including No. 24 ranked Arizona State. NIU will be led into the showcase by graduate forward Rodahn Evans, freshman forward Micah Maldonado and junior forward Jason Kliment as the top three point-scorers on the team.
