NIU men’s soccer senior goalkeeper Jakub Rojek and fifth year midfielder Luis Hernandez were named to the MVC All Tournament Team after their performances in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Rojek faced 64 shots in the tournament, and recorded 19 saves. His consistency was the mainstay for the defensive efforts, holding both Bowling Green State University and Western Michigan University scoreless until the second half of each game.
Rojek saved an early penalty kick against Bowling Green, one of his 11 saves in the match. He added another 9 saves in the semifinals against Western Michigan.
He now holds the fourth place spot for saves in a single MVC tournament, with the other leaders recording saves in three matches played.
Hernandez’s presence in the midfield helped the defense to only allow only 2 goals in regulation time between the two games. He played the entirety of both games for a total of 200 minutes, committing only 2 fouls.
This is the first time that NIU players have been named to the all tournament team since 2021. Alumni Anthony Markanich, Nick Markanich, Pepe Martinez and Roque Viegas Jr were named to the MAC All Tournament Team.
